Chakras are like the energetic ecosystem of the body. Practice simple yoga postures designed to open each of the energy centers in your body. Begin to balance your chakras to improve your everyday life. Increase your awareness of your body’s chakra system and how you can use it to feel more peace and less stress. We will focus on a different chakra each week. Each class will consist of easy yoga postures, engaging lecture and conclude with a long guided relaxation. Please bring a mat and light blanket for the relaxation. Pregnant women must have physician’s approval. THIS GENTLE CLASS IS THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION TO YOGA! Seasonal forces have influenced our psyches and our cultural evolution more than we could ever imagine.
During this event we will honor the transitional season of spring. We will relax our boundaries through gentle yoga exercises and quiet meditation, activities held at the Appalachian Forest Museum – in a room whose windows overlook the edge of the bluffs above the deep canyon of the Rocky Fork Gorge. Lunch will be served at the Museum, composed of healthy vegetarian foods with a special focus on raw foods that are rich in life energy.
After lunch, Nancy Stranahan, Director of the Arc, will lead participants into one of the Arc’s caves, where a special poem will be read. Written back in 2005, it was first read to those who had gathered inside the largest cave to witness the ceremonial turning off of the lights that had lit the caves every day since 1928. With the severing of the wires, the caves were flooded with peaceful native darkness, and thus began their greatly needed restoration. Because creating undisturbed bat habitat continues to be a priority management goal for the caves, they have been closed to people for the last two years. This makes this event’s opportunity an especially rare and meaningful one.
Following the cave contemplation, Nancy will lead participants along one of the Sanctuary’s flower-rimmed trails, when the showy Grandiflorum Trilliums are expected to be either in full bloom, or, like many of our participants, in the process of gently unfolding.
